Education and Experience

University Degree or a Diploma from a recognized Community College.
Experience working in an Engineering Office as a Designer is a requirement.
3 - 5 years of experience using a parametric solid modeling CAD system is mandatory.
Experience using Solid Edge is and/or other CAD software is required.

Skills and Knowledge

Should possess excellent communication skills.
Must work well in a team environment.
Experience with technical Publications Software is an asset.
Knowledge of Engineering Simulation Software is an asset.
Experience using Microsoft Office products to an advanced level is required.
Experience with SharePoint or other document management solutions is an asset.
Experience with CAM software for lasers, lathes and mills is an asset.
Experience with PDM and/or PLM systems is an asset.
Experience working with an ERP system is an asset.



The Engineering Software Support Specialist reports to the Senior Manager, Infrastructure and Operations. This individual provides support to the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Inspection departments on the specialized software used for CAD/CAM/CAE/CAI/PDM and PLM. This individual also provides support to other departments for engineering or business solutions that need integration with IT. This individual works closely with the Engineering Programmer and other members of Information Technology to provide support to the end users.


The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities that this position must focus on, achieve and excel at:

Provide technical support to all users of Engineering Software at MacDon.
Plan and implement software updates and version to version migrations.
Manage software and network licensing of applicable Engineering and Manufacturing Software titles and provide support for annual budget process.
Act as liaison with Software vendors and resellers.
Investigate business processes and look for opportunities to make improvements.
Provide support for all Engineering Automation that currently exists.
Coordinate training for the software supported.
Create and maintain technical documentation.
Maintain an active image of engineering desktop software images and update them for new hardware.
Facilitate implementation or enhancements of Engineering software with rest of IT team.
Investigate and recommend new software packages that have potential benefit to MacDon.
Stay current on technology as it applies to Engineering Software and Engineering Processes.
Provide weekly reports and highlight important issues of concern.
Other Duties as assigned.
