MacDon reveals next generation rotary disc windrower
More power just the first of many upgrades
Winnipeg – MacDon Industries Ltd. is pleased to announce the release of its M205 and R85 Rotary Disc Windrower, the first off the line in its all-new 5 Series of harvesting machines. Loaded with performance enhancements throughout, the machine marks a significant upgrade from its predecessor, the M200 and R80, which won accolades from the industry including two coveted AE50 awards for agricultural innovation from the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers.
Among those significant upgrades on the M205 is a high powered Cummins turbo diesel engine (220 HP at a rated 2,220 RPM) that can automatically power boost to an impressive 230 HP when in extreme, heavy crop conditions. Powerful enough to run draper headers up to 40', this tier-3 engine is fuel efficient and environment friendly thanks to MacDon’s Intermediate Speed Control (ISC). With ISC engaged, operators can select one of three engine speeds to optimally match the engine to harvesting conditions. For most producers this will result in the ability to run the engine quieter in most situations and experience a significant reduction in fuel consumption.
Supporting the larger engine are improvements to the machine’s air intake and exhaust system, which has resulted in a cosmetic reworking of the windrower’s body and hood to allow for greater airflow into the engine. To accommodate the increased air flow the M205’s air filter has also been enlarged, which has provided the added bonus of longer periods between service intervals.
Up front, the new R85 Rotary Disc Header matches the M205 for performance upgrades. Here the focus has been to take the rotary disc concept to the next level by not only increasing productivity, especially in heavier material, but also ensure a cleaner, closer cut in those extreme conditions. To achieve this goal, MacDon examined every aspect of the predecessor R80 for possible improvement, resulting in changes large and small throughout the unit. On the large side is the elimination of the multiple drum crop conveying system on the R85’s 16' model (the R85 is also available in a 13' version). In its place an overshot auger has been added which delivers more positive feeding – and less back-feeding – of crop at the ends of the header when cutting heavier material. To help in lighter downed or lighter crop, the cutterbar assembly now sports a lower profile with full width wear protection. This enables lower, faster cutting.
The improvements to the M205 and R85 are not all about performance; operator comfort has also been considered. Operators can look forward to perhaps the smoothest ride they’ve ever experienced in a windrower thanks to MacDon’s new Ultra Glide™ Cab (UGC) suspension system. This four-corner “custom tuned” independent suspension system features suspension stabilization proprietary to MacDon to prevent cab roll. Operators of the M205 will also appreciate the enhanced instrumentation that now provides accurate readout of hydraulic oil temperature, along with the reporting of more information on other critical systems.
