“MacDon's FlexDraper® is helping us recover at least $60,000 more in beans.”– Greg Bigham, Vergennes, IL
When my brother Roy Allen and I switched to these big John Deere combines you couldn’t get a 40' (12.2 m) or 45' (13.7 m) conventional flex head like you could with the FD Series FlexDrapers. We were looking to maximize the capacity of our combines and only the FD's made that possible. We also heard that there would be less loss at the head with MacDon’s FlexDrapers over conventional flex heads, and that is what we’ve experienced. We don’t have beans hitting the windshield anymore so we know we’re not losing as many beans as with a conventional drum head. In comparison, the FlexDraper® cuts the beans and lays them on the belt and brings them to the middle without thrashing them, and that’s saving us beans. Our thought is if we’re saving one bushel an acre on 6000 acres (2,428 hectares), that’s six thousand bushels at $10 a bushel, so that’s $60,000 a year. Even though we haven’t measured it, I think that it’s likely that we are doing that at least.
