PURPOSE and SCOPE:

Supports the overall management and co-ordination of various manufacturing and production departments and teams within a product line. May establish procedures and policies, projects, initiatives, etc. to achieve production schedules, product standards, and operational costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities that this position must focus on, must achieve and must excel at:
  • Ensure operational KPI’s are created and aligned to overall facility and company needs.
  • Support development of workforce.
  • Maximize the daily production of the manufacturing facility to deliver a quality product at an efficient cost.
  • Implement systems to manage, initiate, control, and direct the activities of employees and equipment in their plant.
  • Supports the proper application of policies and procedures.
  • Supports the product line leaders to understand and follow the System for Daily Management.
  • Oversee forecasting machines and staffing required for future work assignments alongside management.
  • Supervise maintenance requirements to ensure that down-time is minimized, and productivity maintained.
  • Attend Quality Planning meetings and assist in improvement and follow up of implementation.
  • Maintain regular communication with Operations Management team to production problems and needs to meet company demands.
  • Collaborate with other facilities to exchange best practices, support and problem solve as required.
  • Budget expenditures and support approval. Calculate labour and manufacturing costs to stay in line with MacDon’s budget policies and procedures.
  • Work closely with Safety to ensure all legal Health and Safety requirements are met and sustained within the work area.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience

  • University degree in engineering or related technical field or combination of education/relevant work experience.
  • 3 years of experience in operations in a manufacturing environment.
  • Three to five years of experience in a management position, preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with employee development and performance management
  • Lean Green Belt Certification preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Ability to confidently communicate with customers (internal and external) regarding products, processes and problem solving.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Team-oriented; good team player and adaptable to changing environment
  • Ability to gather, analyze, draw conclusions and make recommendations on information and data from across the organization to drive improvement in processes, tools and systems.
  • Knowledge of Kaizen for process improvement, and lean manufacturing tools, pull systems (KanBan and Min-Max).
  • Advanced knowledge of machine capability requirements.
  • Ability to use various computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to track expenses and run projections.
  • Knowledge of continuous improvement tools and activities.
  • Engage in ongoing learning through participation in professional organizations, seminars, formal courses, conferences, and trade shows. Upgrade skills by attending conferences and networking functions, by liaising with industry associations, and by taking management classes through educational institutions.
  • Able to travel. Able to cross the Canadian/US border and other countries as necessary.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid passport and driver’s license.
