Job Summary
Overall management of the Quality Lab including metrology, metallurgy, and metallography. This includes supervision and technical guidance of staff, development and execution of inspection and testing operations, calibration and maintenance of all lab equipment, as well as support of R&D initiatives/projects.

Responsibility
•    Supervision and technical guidance of Quality Lab Technicians to execute and report inspection results for all submitted inspection request forms (IRF) and PPAP in timely fashion.
•    Supervision and technical guidance of Metallurgist to support failure analysis and material characterization. Identify necessary tools and equipment to enhance the lab capabilities in support of development and application of new materials and processes.
•    Develop weld inspection standards and provide feedback on weld quality and improvements.
•    Provide support to the material review board (MRB) and supplier quality reviews such as PPAP.
•    Ensure that the lab work environment is safe and maintain compliance to all health and safety regulations.  Work with safety department to ensure staff are trained to perform tasks safely. 
•    Estimate and provide workload for the current year and following year, ensuring that the workload and staffing balance is adequate and that all equipment has available capacity to meet demand.
•    Develop and maintain equipment calibration plan, including calibration intervals, annual budgeting, and timely purchase requisition submission. Ensure high equipment availability and accuracy.
•    Monitor and improve efficiency & effectiveness of lab performance through relevant KPIs.
•    Develop skills matrix and training plan for all staff to ensure high performance standards.
•    Development, maintenance and enhancement of     lab work instructions and best practices.
•    Make recommendations for improvements in design or manufacturing process as the inspection results indicate.
•    Operate and program lab equipment for conformance verification of components and materials.
Academic/Educational Requirements
•    A post-secondary diploma/degree in a technical field from a recognized/accredited institution
Required Skills/Experience
•    Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing a quality lab and supervising lab technicians and metallurgists
•    Applied experience in the operation, maintenance, and calibration of lab equipment including:
     o    CMM 
     o    Faro-Arm
     o    Laser Tracker
•    Applied experience in mechanical & chemical testing including:
     o    Tensile tester, Hardness tester
     o    Micro-sectioning equipment
     o    Metallography, Microscope
     o   NDT, weld inspection
•    Applied experience in a laboratory environment in the manufacturing industry
•    Strong communication skills both verbal & written with all levels in the organization
•    Effective leadership & interpersonal skills; ability to coach and mentor technicians & engineers
•    Effective analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
•    Ability to prioritize and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines
•    Self-starter with the ability to work both independently and within a team environment
•    Experience with GD&T and blueprint reading
•    Experience with FAI and PPAP inspection methods
•    Experience with various materials (castings, steel, plastics etc.).
•    Experience with application of industry standards (SAE, ASTM, ISO, etc.).
•    Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
