Human Resource Generalist – 12 Month Term Position

The Human Resource Generalist is responsible for performing HR related duties on a professional level with emphasizes on student and hourly staffing requirements and engagement. The HR Generalist will collaborate with hiring managers and provide subject matter expertise in the areas of but not limited to student and hourly recruitment and retention.


  • Manage the student recruitment cycle including but not limited to:
    • Work with department leaders to determine student resource requirements.
    • Develop recruitment materials and manage the job posting process with the various educational institutes.
    • Manage the sponsorship process MacDon engages in with various educational institutes related to recruitment initiatives.
    • Attend career fairs locally and abroad to develop working relationships with colleges and universities to attract and recruit future candidates.
    • Assist in organizing hotel, travel, and accommodations for out-of-province students.
    • Coordinate travel insurance policies for employees traveling abroad.
    • Proactively communicate with terms working aboard to address any concerns/questions they may have.
    • Research and apply for various grant funding related to student employment.
  • Screen hourly and student applications/resumes, evaluate applicant skills, conduct prescreening, interview internal and external applicants, reference checks and extending offers.
  • Recruit qualified candidates while adhering to the Manitoba Employment Standards and Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
  • Assist with hourly staffing requirements such as shutdown, recalls and layoffs.
  • Manage post hire documentation requirements including job descriptions and resume database.
  • Review, update and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Document preparation including but not limited to employment letters, legal documents, and other business correspondence including the development of HR related templates.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Education and Experience

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources or a related field with Human Resources Management Certification (CHRP) considered an asset.
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a Human Resource department, with exposure to a broad spectrum of Human Resource activities, or equivalent experience.

  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively.
  • High degree of organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Sound judgement and decision making ability and Ability to recognize and maintain confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization.
  • Knowledge of Employment Legislation.
  • Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge with MS Office and Excel.
  • Ability to travel within North America.
